One of the most heartbreaking experiences for shelter staff is seeing a dog finally find a home, only to be returned again. Finding a good home for a dog is challenging enough, but rehoming a dog for a second or third time is even more difficult. The impact on the animal is even greater. After feeling the joy of leaving the stressful shelter environment, they are brought back when a family decides they no longer want them. Zion, a dog with a warm and loving nature, went through this disappointment firsthand. Despite his endearing personality, he was returned to the shelter three times, leaving him deeply saddened.

The shelter staff was puzzled by this, but they knew they needed to do something to help him. Zion had only been with his new family for a year before they brought him back to the shelter in Florida. The reasons for his repeated returns were unclear.

Zion was an ideal dog. He was friendly with everyone he met and loved playing with other dogs. However, the shelter staff knew that coming back to the shelter would have a significant impact on him, and they realized it would take some time for him to recover.

To help Zion, the Humane Society of Broward County decided to share a video about his situation, hoping to find someone who would be compassionate and willing to give him a new home.

In the video’s description, they wrote: “He was just being a dog! This gorgeous 1-year-old pup is Zion, and sadly, he has been given up 3 times now all because his humans did not understand him.” They also emphasized that his breed was known for being intelligent and playful. Zion was very attached to his family and didn’t like being left alone. This was the main reason his previous owners gave him up. When left by himself, Zion would bark, cry, and sometimes cause damage in the home, which frustrated his owners, leading them to return him.

The Humane Society of Broward County also added: “Zion has been let down, and now, through no fault of his own, he is back at our shelter hoping for yet another chance to be the incredible dog that he is!”

Zion is a wonderful, affectionate dog who just wants to be with people who care about him. He loves exploring new places, playing with his owners and other dogs, and especially enjoys car rides. Zion would thrive in a family that has another dog, as having a companion might help prevent him from becoming destructive when left alone.

What these dogs went through must have been terrifying and painful. That's why we're demanding true and complete justice for these pups and their family.

The Humane Society is determined to find someone who will understand Zion’s needs and appreciate him for the amazing dog he is. If you are interested in adopting Zion or any other pet from the Humane Society of Broward County, click here. They are accepting in-state and out-of-state applications.

@humanebroward Oh Zion He was just being a dog! This gorgeous 1-year-old pup is Zion, and sadly, he has been given up 3 times now all because his humans did not understand him You see, Zion is a Caanan Dog, which is a marvelous working breed that likes to keep busy, be with their people and have lots of time to play, especially with other dogs. They are extremely intelligent, and enjoy learning new things and pleasing their owner (whom they get very attached to). Sadly, Zion was never given a chance to prove any of this His first family gave him up because he became destructive and cried when he was alone Another family left him outside 24 hours a day and then complained that he barked too much Zion has been let down, and now, through no fault of his own, he is back at our shelter hoping for yet another chance to be the incredible dog that he is! Our staff says he is very sweet and gives lots of kisses! He has a great disposition, a fun energy, loves riding in the car and playing with other dogs. He would make an amazing companion for a family that has time to devote to him! Are you that special family? ❤️ If you cannot adopt, please share Zion’s post!
