It seems like just yesterday when we shared the story of sweet Sisu, the determined stray dog who absolutely insisted on owning a specific purple unicorn from Dollar General.
Since so many people were touched by his story, we thought you might be interested in knowing that he’s finally officially available for adoption!
If you yourself have experienced the incredible fortune of loving multiple dogs, it becomes extremely obvious that every dog is different. Despite being the same breed or even having the same coloring, each one of our canine companions is unique. They all seem to have their own endearing behaviors and silly quirks. And when it comes to sweet Sisu, that means having a love for snuggling and procuring plush purple unicorns.
Stealthy Sisu was once a stray that was caught sneaking into a Dollar General every time a customer exited. Not only was his insistence about entering a public place a bit strange, but every time he’d successfully sneak-in, he always seemed to beeline for the same stuffed animal.
Eventually, animal control officer Samantha Lane arrived on scene and sweet Sisu melted her heart. She decided to purchase his beloved stuffed sidekick for him, and once she had, she was able to convince him to hop in her car and come with her to Lynchburg Humane Society.
“He’d walk in, go to that unicorn and try to get it. He did it four or five times before they locked the door and called us to come get him. Maybe he had a stuffed animal like that in his original home. I don’t know, but he wanted that purple unicorn bad,” said Joe Newburn of Duplin County Animal Services.
Their story touched the hearts of people across the internet and even inspired similar acts of kindness all over the country. Sisu then ventured to Virginia, where he received and mastered some much-needed training.
There, he learned basic commands, proper behavior, and how to share his beloved unicorn with other dogs. Finally, eleven months later, two-year-old Sisu is officially ready to be adopted!
An incredibly lucky family is about to welcome this sweet, unicorn-loving Lab into their pack. But it can’t just be anyone. Lab Rescue LRCP is searching for the perfect fit. Sisu is neutered, gets along well with other dogs, loves to play, and may or may not need a feline-free home. (He hasn’t met a cat yet).
Ideally, Sisu will need plenty of room to run and will thrive with a fenced-in yard. Ironically, Sisu has perfected fetch and loves to play, but he has also been lovingly described as a “Labrador recliner” a opposed to a “Labrador retriever” since he also loves to lounge and can be a bit “lazy” when he chooses.
Sisu currently lives with a foster family and is open to scheduling adoption interviews.
