Volunteers from The Animal Pad rescue group received a call about a puppy who was in the middle of the road. He remained in the exact spot where his owner abandoned him. It was such a heart-wrenching sight to see! Just as the rescuers arrived, the weather worsened. The puppy got scared and ran off. That is when the rescuers got an alert about a tornado warning. The rescuers were stunned. They never had a tornado alert in San Diego before. Now, they had to race against the clock to bring the dog to safety. If only they could catch him!
The puppy took off into the brush, and the rescuers followed. There were cacti everywhere and he got stuck. He tried to pull the thorns out, but it was in vain. Armed with chicken, both women made their way over. One rescuer, Lauren, also got stuck with a cactus (right on her caboose!). She said, “It was a painful experience.”
Lauren had a catch pole and she used it to stroke the dog so he wouldn’t be afraid of it. The puppy growled and showed his teeth. But he knew he needed their help. He sat in front of them, lifted up his paw, and showed them where one of the cacti stuck him. It hurt and he wanted them to make it better.
The rescuers finally managed to get the catch pole around his neck and both of them sobbed. They were so excited to get the sweet boy into their van, but then something unthinkable happened! One of the rescuers left the hazards on the entire time and the van’s battery drained. It wouldn’t start!
Will they figure out a way to get the puppy back to the rescue center? Play the video by The Dodo posted below to find out what happens next. We are so relieved that the puppy, now named Pete, was saved just in time!
