There are laws that hold dog owners legally responsible for leaving their pups in hot/cold cars, and even some laws that allow passers-by to break into cars if there’s a dog suffering inside. While holding owners accountable to this cruel treatment of canines definitely helps, it still keeps happening.
That’s why one location of the furniture behemoth Ikea came up with a solution: a puppy parking lot! Not only is this a safe alternative to leaving dogs in cars, it encourages shoppers to let Fido tag along for the ride.
The Cologne, Germany location features several “parking spots” to park your pooch. For the pup’s comfort and safety, each platform is covered with artificial grass and equipped with water bowls and posts to secure the leashes.
Of course, reactive or anxious dogs are better off staying in the comfort of their quiet, air-conditioned homes. But if dogs are patient and enjoy lounging in the great outdoors–and owners don’t plan on spending hours upon hours shopping–this is a great way for car ride-loving canines to enjoy an errand outing!
Would you bring your dog shopping if you could “park” him/her in a puppy parking lot?
