Little Bobby was just 5 days old when he was orphaned.
The Chihuahua puppy was found by a passerby, next to his deceased mother after she’d been struck by a car. He was struggling to stay alive, and without the kindness of this good Samaritan, he never would’ve made it.
But luckily, he got a second chance. Brought to the Michigan Humane Society, staff knew that he needed the nutrition of a mother’s milk to prosper.
“Bottle feeding can be inconsistent, laborious, and risky, even for those that have the resources and time to do so,” reads the Michigan Humane Society website.
There were no lactating dogs at the humane society. However, there was a cat named Gwen who had just had a litter of kittens. They figured it was worth a shot, and presented Bobby to the new mother.
According to their site, “Gwen accepted him as one of her own.”
Even Bobby’s “siblings” welcomed him into the family.
Together, they snuggled next to Mama in one fluffy pile.
And they shared their toys!
The tiny puppy fits right in with his adoptive family.
According to the Michigan Humane Society Facebook page, Bobby is now being cared for in a foster home and is socializing with other pups. He will remain there for several more weeks, until he is ready to be adopted.
“He is starting to spend some time with other dogs as well so he can learn proper canine body language, but still loves his kitty family!” a post reads.
