Horrific abuse was recently captured on a Ring doorbell camera in the early hours of the morning. As the abuser walked their dog along the sidewalk, they soon began to slam the dog on the ground and drag them along the pavement.

Investigators in the Southeast Washington D.C. area are searching for the person responsible for this disgusting act against an innocent dog. The incident occurred on the 2600 block of Pomeroy Road in Southeast D.C. on March 28th, and two different cameras on the street captured the crime.

Once the footage was released to authorities, the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) raised $2,500 for any information leading to the abuser’s arrest. However, once an author named Don Winslow caught wind of the situation, he immediately donated $20,000 to the reward fund. This brings the grand total for information to $22,500, and investigators hope this will be the incentive needed to find the person responsible.

In addition to information leading to the suspect’s arrest, officers are also asking for any surveillance footage that may have caught the person between the hours of 6-8 am on Monday, March 28th. The specific streets of interest include:

  • Pomeroy Rd.
  • Sheridan Rd.
  • Elvans Rd.
  • Morris Rd.
  • Stanton Rd.
  • Maple View Pl.
  • Mount View Pl.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

The person of interest is believed to be wearing a long puffer coat with dark tennis shoes, and the dog may have a white marking on its chest. If you review your footage from that timeframe and see anything that could fit this description, we urge you to reach out to the HRA at (202) 723-5730.

“As a humane community we can have zero tolerance for despicable violence toward animals, and we intend to fight cruelty wherever it exists. Our officers rely on your tips to rescue vulnerable animals and stop the cycle of cruelty and violence. We ask anyone who has information about this case to please come forward as soon as possible, and hope this reward helps. We won’t rest until the suspect is apprehended and the dog is safely in our care.” – Lisa LaFontaine, President and CEO of the Humane Rescue Alliance

The footage of this incident is horrific, and we can’t even begin to imagine how terrified this poor pup is in their current situation. Many animal abusers have been caught with surveillance footage of the incident, so we hope this situation is no different.
