We’re used to seeing “Lost Dog” flyers just about everywhere when we step outside, but the one place we haven’t seen them so far has been on our food – until now!

A pizzeria in New Jersey is doing what they can to reunite lost pets with their worried people. Where most pizzerias would put take-out menus and coupons, Angelo’s Pizza in Matawan, NJ has begun putting lost pet flyers on their pizza boxes. By doing so, they hope to help boost the signal for those eager to find their wandering dogs and cats.

Owner John Sanfratello came up with this unique idea just last week, when he saw a plead for help online from a woman who was missing her cat, Hazel. As a pet owner himself, he understood exactly what he woman was going through. He told Fox 13 News,

“We had had our cat run away a few years back and we went through a similar thing. My kids were younger. There was a lot of crying, a lot of anxiety.”

Inspiration struck when he glanced at the stacks of pizza boxes along the wall nearby. He contacted the woman and invited her to bring him a flyer so he could send it out with his pizzas! Luckily, the woman found her missing kitty before she could bring in the flyer – but why waste a good idea?

Knowing that he had hit on a really great idea, John Sanfrantello sent out a post on Facebook, inviting anyone in the area who was missing a pet to bring a flyer in to the restaurant. Since then the post has been shared over 1,500 times, and more heartbroken pet parents have gone to Angelo’s Pizza for help.

Sanfratello hopes that not only will he help put the word out about these pets, but that other restaurants will consider copying his clever idea with their own take out containers! Angelo’s Pizza will continue distributing these flyers so long as they can, because they really believe that any contribution to a cause like this can make a difference.

“We’re going to keep doing it as long as pets need to be found.”
