Victor is a company that provides “super premium pet food” to canines. However, even the most popular dog food brands can face quality issues. When a sample of this company’s food tested positive for Salmonella, Victor voluntarily recalled it to ensure all its customers stayed safe.

What was Recalled?
Victor recalled one lot of the Victor Super Premium Dog Food High-Pro Plus. The affected products had the lot code 1000016385 and the best by date 4/30/2024. You can find the lot code information on the back of the bag. The lot included 644 cases of dog food, all of which were 5-pound bags.
There are currently no reported illnesses related to this recall. The company became aware of the issue after the South Carolina Department of Agriculture ran a random sample test.
Salmonella Risk for Dogs and Humans
Salmonella can cause a lot of unwanted symptoms in dogs, including fever, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. If your dog is in good health otherwise, they should have no problem recovering, but no dog should have to feel the discomfort associated with these symptoms. Plus, dogs with Salmonella can pass the bacteria to humans and other animals.
Humans can contract Salmonella more easily than dogs, and they share similar symptoms. If you’ve been exposed to the bacteria, you may experience diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, vomiting, and headaches. In most cases, Salmonella can go away without treatment, but symptoms can last up to a week.
What to Do with the Recalled Food
Retailers and distributors are asked to immediately pull the recalled food from their shelves. The food should not be sold or donated to anyone. If any customers are in possession of the recalled food, they should dispose of the food in a way that no animals or children can access it.
Anything that touched the recalled food, such as bowls and storage containers, should be washed and sanitized. Keep an eye out for unusual symptoms in the humans and animals of your household, and if you have any concerns, contact a medical professional. Even though Salmonella can go away without treatment in most cases, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
