Every time you purchase products from the iHeartDogs store, part of that profit is donated to Greater Good Charities to help dogs in need. Those donations provide essential supplies for shelter dogs. In many cases, the dogs that benefit from these donations get a better chance at life as a result!

Route 66 Pet Rescue in Oklahoma is one of the many organizations that benefit from Greater Good Charities’ GOODS Program, which donates food and other essential supplies. The rescue has saved many dogs over the years, including a young, beautiful dog named Prince.

Prince at Route 66 Rescue

Prince and his sister, Queenie, were part of an “unwanted litter.” Their siblings found homes quickly, but when a human took in Prince and Queenie, they didn’t give them the life they deserved. The human was too busy to properly train and socialize the two puppies, so they both became fearful of humans.

Route 66 took in the two dogs and put them into foster care. Their foster parent evaluated their behaviors and determined that even though the pups were timid, they were well-behaved dogs. Prince fell in love with the other dogs in his foster home, so the rescue decided that he should go to a home that has another dog for him to play with.

Preparing for a Forever Home

The rescue signed Prince up for an 8-week training program at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, where he could work with inmates on basic commands. While Prince can be stubborn at times, he quickly picked up on commands like sit and shake, and he also improved his leash walking skills.

Because of the GOODS Program, Prince and many dogs like him are given necessary supplies through the rescue, allowing the volunteers to focus on other areas of their care, such as training and medical needs.

“The GOODS Program is such a blessing,” Route 66 wrote. “The program helps us ensure that our rescue dogs continue to receive great quality food and supplies so they can continue to flourish while waiting for their forever home.”

Prince is now doing great in his foster home thanks to everything the rescue has done for him. If you’re interested in adopting Prince, you can visit Route 66’s website.
