For centuries, farm dogs have been working alongside their masters, making incredible contributions to the overall success of their family farms. Not only do these diligent dogs offer protection and make a major impact in reducing the overall workload on the farm, but they are also excellent companions, and fantastic furry family members.

Their incredible contributions and the substantial support they offer both on the farm and within their family is exactly what the Farm Bureau Federation seeks to celebrate with their “Farm Dog Of Year” award. Not only do farm dogs lighten the workload, but they also offer love and companionship in what can sometimes be a very solitary life.

“It’s a pleasure to host this popular contest again and provide a glimpse into daily life on the farm. The dual role assumed by most farm dogs is so important. They lighten the workload and enrich our lives by providing faithful and playful companionship,” said American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall

The Grand Prize

Farmers and ranchers are now officially invited to submit their nominations for the 2023 Farm Bureau Farm Dog of the Year. Along with the prestigious title, the winning pup will receive $5,000 in prize money and a year’s supply of Purina dog food.

The winning four-legged farmhand will officially be recognized during a ceremony at the American Farm Bureau Federation Convention that will take place in January of 2023. Plus, up to four regional runners-up will each win $1,000 in prize money.

Not only are all of those prizes amazing, but The Farm Dog of The Year will also be featured in a professionally-produced video. (You can take a peek at least year’s video HERE.)

“At Purina, we recognize the important role dogs play on the farm and in the hearts of families everywhere. Purina has a long history of sourcing nutritious, sustainable ingredients from American farms to make our foods. We salute farmers and the important work they are doing to steward their land and help feed generations of people and pets,” said Jack Scott, vice president of sustainability at Purina.

People’s Choice Pup

The People’s Choice Pup was a popular element of last year’s Farm Dog of the Year competition, so the social media contest will be returning this year as well. Profiles of nominated dogs will be shared starting in October, and you will be invited to vote for your favorite pup. Bragging rights along with one year’s worth of Purina dog food will be awarded to the People’s Choice winner.
