Back in November we brought you the wonderful story of Kim Pacini-Hauch who volunteered to pay the adoption fees for every single animal adopted from the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, CA over the holidays.

Since November 18th, more than 800 dogs and cats have found homes thanks to her “Home for the Pawlidays” promotion.

Front Street Animal Shelter plans to make the most of Pacini-Hauch’s incredibly generous gift. They have been pulling dogs and cats from other area shelters in order to meet the adoption demand and ensure that everyone who wants to take advantage of the waived fees finds the perfect pet to bring home.

Pacini-Hauch is a local real estate agent and animal lover. The “Home for the Pawlidays” event will likely end up costing her nearly $20,000 when all is said and done with cat adoptions at $65 and dog adoptions ranging from $85 to $100.

One of the 800+ animals adopted this holiday was Mindy, a Chihuahua mix with skin problems and a double hernia, adopted by Pacini-Hauch herself! The generous realtor did a television spot with Mindy and just couldn’t let her go!

She is hopeful that her incredible deed will inspire others to take similar action and remind the world that shelter animals have value. She told TODAY:

“My greatest hope is that this simple concept has created a heightened awareness that you can find the pet of your dreams at any local shelter across the country,”

A retired couple in Roseville, CA have already cited Pacini-Hauch as the reason they sponsored a similar program at the Placer SPCA where they are volunteers. Elizabeth Laverty and Kevin Williamson offered to cover all adoption fees through the end of December on dogs, cats and exotic pets.

Some people question whether promotions like this encourage spontaneous adoptions by unprepared owners or, even worse, dog fighters and abusers. However, research shows that pets whose adoption fees are waived are just as likely to become permanent family members.

Despite a 35% increase in adoptions during the “Home for the Pawlidays” event, the Front Street Animal Shelter has also committed to maintaining the same strict screening process for each and every adopter.

There are still 5 more days until the adoption event ends, so zip on down to the shelter and find your purr-fect match or fur-ever friend! And don’t forget, if you are looking to purchase a home in the Sacramento area – Kim Pacini-Hauch is your realtor!
