On June 29th, 2022, a family was told their dog went missing while staying at a pet resort in Spicewood, Texas. They spent days searching for him only to find out he wasn’t missing at all. Instead, his dead body was buried on the property of the dog daycare.
No one knows exactly what happened to the “missing” canine, but the family is devastated. They spent a week searching for him when he wasn’t even on the loose. Officers are investigating the details, but the situation is definitely suspicious.
Golden Retriever Goes “Missing”
Indy the Golden Retriever had never stayed at a kennel before, but his humans were traveling out of the country, so they gave it a try. The family’s fears came true only two days after he was dropped off. Lucki Dogs Resort in Texas claimed that the dog went missing, so Indy’s humans quickly spread the word on social media.
The Trapping, Rescue and Pet Recovery Services (TRAPRS) of Austin, Texas, helped the family search for their lost family member. About a week after Indy went missing, the nonprofit found him, but it wasn’t in a way they were expecting.

Indy’s body was found buried on the property of Lucki Dogs Resort. The owner of the kennel hasn’t explained what happened, but the police say the owner is cooperating. There have been some staff changes at the resort in the past few days.
“When we learned what tragically happened to Indy it was gut-wrenching,” said Bee Cave Mayor Kara King. “I personally shed tears. I know people felt betrayed, they felt lied to.”
Indy’s Death Remains a Mystery
While the situation is under investigation, the dog resort is allowed to keep operating, but according to Google, they’re temporarily closed. A few other people have posted bad reviews of their experiences since this story became public, but officials are only focusing on the current incident.
Mike Sorenson, the captain of support services at the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, explained that they’re currently waiting for a necropsy to be done on Indy so they can determine the cause of death.

“The cause of death is a determining factor we have to utilize to determine the type of charge we are going to be able to file, whether it is cruelty or not. That is the big issue right now. It is hard to give a timeline based off of that. There are still a lot of moving pieces to this puzzle and we are still trying to put everything together,” Sorenson said.
Police haven’t searched the grounds of the resort since Indy’s body was found, but an officer went inside the pet resort and said it seemed clean and the AC was working. Anyone with information about Indy’s death should contact the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office. Indy’s family deserves to know the truth about what happened to their beloved dog.
