A baby chimp named Kailo has already lived a tragic life. Poachers shot his mother so they could take Kailo and sell him as a pet. Even though Kailo is young, he remembers everything that has happened to him. The traumatized baby was thankfully rescued and brought to a sanctuary.
When Kailo was released from his wooden crate, the scared baby craved love so badly that he ran to the volunteer and wrapped his arms around her. His hug spoke volumes. The poor baby can now move forward and leave the cruel days behind. Because chimps are highly intelligent and affectionate creatures, the high demand for chimps as pets is growing, making poachers more driven than ever.
Now that Kailo is safe at the sanctuary, he will be placed with other baby chimps. The volunteers will work tirelessly to prepare Kailo and others like him to be released back into the wild once they are old enough. Do your part and spread the word that chimps should never be sold as pets!
