Robin found himself in a shelter as a young pup after being picked up as a stray. Like many adorable shelter puppies, Robin found a home soon enough. But only six months later, he was found again wandering the streets of Oklahoma as a stray once again.
One night while trying to hop the walls of his kennel, Robin suffered an unfortunate accident. He somehow got his leg caught at the top of his kennel door. He was found the following morning, exhausted, covered in blood, with his foreleg stuck in the kennel wall. The accident left Robin’s leg severely broken, and due to a lack of resources, Robin endured the pain of his broken leg with no medical attention for two weeks.
The shelter staff knew Robin was suffering. With few options, they decided to reach out to a local rescue, Friends with Four Paws, to help. Rescuers wasted no time taking Robin in and securing care for his broken leg as soon as possible.
Robin’s foreleg suffered a break that was too close to the joint to pin, and as a result, the poor pup had to endure a recovery that took several months. His recovery plan called for a lot of attention from his new rescuer friends. He required weekly splint changes, laser therapy, and lots and lots of rest to save his leg. It was a tall order, but Friends with Four Paws was determined to fight for Robin.
After weeks of strict medical care and TLC, Robin’s cast was removed – but it wasn’t the end of his bad luck. Several weeks later, a chunk of bone broke off from the same leg he had just spent so much time trying to heal. Nevertheless, Friends with Four Paws didn’t give up on him.
During his recovery, Robin was able to make himself comfortable in the home of a caring foster. His stay was made even cozier with the help of Greater Good Charities’ GOODS Program, which provided bully sticks, dental food, toys, and lick mats to keep him entertained while he recovered. The GOODS Program also helped provide food and treats for Robin and the other pets in the care of Friends with Four Paws.
Food, toys, and treats may not seem like a big deal, but these items can be a huge blessing for a rescue that refuses to turn away tough cases like Robin’s. Friends with Four Paws knew that taking in an energetic dog with a broken leg would weigh heavily on their resources. And when his leg broke again, they were able to continue his care until he was completely healed.
“One of the things we do to try and help the community is take in medical cases that may not have much of a chance without rescue. Many of the cases we get can yield high medical bills. Not having to spend an excessive amount of funds on the supplies provided through the GOODS Program, allows us the availability to continue directing funds towards medical bills. It truly allows us to help more in need!”
