Do you ever see pictures of shelter pets online and wish that you could give them ALL a home? An Imgur user has done the next best thing by helping adoptable dogs go viral in hopes of finding them forever homes.

RescueThisPibble has been sharing photos and information about adoptable dogs whose time is running out in crowded shelters all over the United States. These dogs are often kept in small kennels with other dogs, and are at risk of being euthanized if homes or fosters can’t be found. Most long-term residents of shelters are dogs considered to be “aggressive” breeds—like Griffin, an American Pit Bull Terrier.

Griffin’s information was shared on Imgur yesterday. His photo shows a sad, sweet-faced pup with floppy ears and brown spots—who would believe he’s been rejected by potential families for over six months? But within three hours of posting his photo, Griffin had nearly 20,000 shares, money donated to sponsor him, and six applications to adopt!

After 216 days of waiting for a new family, Griffin finally went home – only two days after the post went viral on Imgur! Another post went up showing a different side of Griffin – a playful pup with his new human, both smiling happily!

Not all of the dogs go viral, but the ones that do almost always find families or foster homes immediately. Because of Griffin’s success, RescueThisPibble has been encouraged to post on behalf of more dogs, giving them the opportunity to be seen, and a better chance at a happy home.

With so many homeless dogs in high-risk shelters, the world needs more superheroes like RescueThisPibble. You can help by following your local shelter’s Facebook or Twitter feed and sharing posts and pictures of their adoptable pets with your friends. Even if they can’t foster or adopt, maybe pictures of big eyes and wagging tails will encourage them to share too, and get these photos into the feeds of people who can give these pets their forever homes!
