In May, a tiny Chihuahua was found on the side of a Lewiston, Maine road in a pile of discarded trash. A news story about his plight caught the attention of Laurie Marcotte. She fell in love with the pitiful pooch – named Motto by his rescuers – and contacted the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society to become his foster mom.
Marcotte nursed Motto’s wounded soul, and in return, he provided constant love and support as she underwent chemotherapy.
Motto was suffering from severe dental disease when he first arrived at the humane society. A veterinarian described his mouth as “one big ulcer.” After dental surgery and a brief recovery, the fawn-colored cutie was ready to meet Marcotte – a veteran Chihuahua foster mom.
As it turns out, they were perfect for one another! Motto benefitted from Marcotte’s strength and positivity, while Marcotte found comfort in Motto’s calm, loving demeanor.
“All animals tend to know when you’re not feeling well,” Marcotte told WMTW News. “He was just a little snuggler, just loved to sit next to me and be around it. And it was a great comfort. It really, really was.”
Marcotte completed her last chemo treatment at the end of June and just last week, sweet Motto went to his brand new forever home!
Lewiston officials are still searching for the person or persons who neglected and abandoned Motto. We’re so glad this deserving pup has learned what it’s like to be loved, and we hope he’s spoiled for the rest of his life!
