A very smart, very intuitive dog is being credited with saving the life of a baby and her mother in Ohio earlier this month.
Amanda Novak and her 1-year-old daughter, Emma, had just gotten home on the night of November 10 and begun going about their day as usual: Amanda sent her daughter off to play with her toys, and she went to the kitchen. However, their 1 1/2-year-old Australian Shepherd and Rottweiler mix, Harley, was not behaving normally.
As Emma played with her toys, Harley took her by the hood of her sweater and dragged her into the kitchen to Amanda. The dog putting the child’s sweater in her mouth and tugging didn’t sit well with Amanda, who became upset and put Harley outside. Harley continued to act strangely, though, trying desperately to get back into the house.
Only moments later, Amanda heard a noise come from the area of the house where Emma was before Harley dragged her away. She rushed to investigate and saw “fire raining down from the ceiling.” The fire detectors suddenly went off and the house burst into flames. According to Fox 8, Amanda and Emma were just barely able to escape their home before the fire caused the windows to break.
Harley is being praised as a hero and a good boy! Amanda is thankful that, although she didn’t understand why Harley was behaving as he was, that he managed to save her daughter’s life.
