Dog-Dad Celebrates “Coming Home” Anniversary With Photos From Their First Year Together

| September 30, 2016

We pet parents know how exciting those first days, weeks, and months are following the adoption of a furry family member. But even as you settle into a routine, your love continues to grow deeper as you learn to depend on your canine’s companionship in your every day life.

Imgur user metalfacemark took pictures to remember that first exciting year of pup parenthood with his dog, Harvey. As a tribute to their ever-growing love and friendship, he posted a series of photos on the anniversary of the day they took the him home!

“Happy coming home day Harvey!” he posted. (The following quotes are also from metalfacemark via Imgur.)

We bet you can relate to the best moments they shared during their first year together:

There’s that first day when you bring a puppy home and you simply can’t believe that this fuzzy bundle of joy is actually going to be living with you

“He came home with us a year ago today – look at the little face – daw.”

As your pup starts to settle into the family, his own little personality starts to develop. He picks out his favorite spots to frequent…

“His favorite place to hang out when he was little and it’s still where he likes to lounge.”

And some are more quirky than others.

“He liked sleeping in odd places…”

You start to figure out which kinds of toys are his favorite…

“Banana was eaten shortly afterwards and pooped out.”

And whether he’d prefer to cuddle / fetch / destroy / eat said toys.

“He liked a snuggle with me and monkey – monkey went the same way as banana shortly after.”

Then there’s the first time your little angel does something really naughty, but you can’t stay mad because…that face

“Caught in the act of pin raiding – he’s a lab so he’s a greedy bugger.”

You begin to marvel at how much he’s growing, missing those tiny puppy days, but excited to see what life has in store for you next.

“Getting bigger but still loves a sleep – he’s keeping his eye on me though. His nose started to turn brown around this time.”

You’re amazed at how any being in the world can want to be around you all the time, and never, ever get sick of you. What’s more, you never, ever get sick of him either…

“When I’m ironing, he likes to help.”

…even if he doesn’t know what “personal space” means.

“He likes to watch when I’m having a bath.”

Getting fresh air and exercise is much more fun now that you have a pup to enjoy it with.

“He loves being outside more than anything.”

And seeing him play is one of the best forms of entertainment ever.

“He got in trouble by chasing sheep on one occasion.”

You feel like a proud parent with every single accomplishment.

“The day his crate went – he was ready for it to go.”

And you consider your dog to be one of the most beautiful creatures in the world…

“Looking mighty regal.”

…even while making this face.

“He’s a bit derpy.”

That first year of pet parenthood is so exciting because, with any luck, the two of you will share countless other adventures and memories together!
