Chester, a red-nosed pit bull, was just one year old when he came to stay at North Fork Animal Welfare League (NFAWL) in Southold, New York.
Days stretched to weeks. And months. And then years.
Five years went by, and Chester was still at the shelter. That’s when Gabby Glantzman, Manager for NFAWL, decided to take Chester viral and made him a Facebook page.
This was the picture she posted of Chester – a plea for a family of his own.
That was on Thursday, April 2. The image was shared by thousands – Chester had gone viral.
The very next day a family came and saw him.
It was love at first site….
They picked him up on Saturday

Definitely a happy dog!
Chester got to celebrate Easter with his new family.
His new family told Glantzman that “he is the perfect dog.”
Others Need Homes Too
Chester wants to make sure people don’t forget there are other dogs just like him, who have been waiting too long for a home of their own!
His Facebook page will continue to function – sharing images of dogs that are overdue for a forever family. Like Fiona:
And Cinnie who has been at the shelter almost as long as Chester. She is still waiting for a great home.
