A Dying Man’s Last Wish Is To Find A Home For His Beloved Senior Dog

| December 19, 2017

For the past eight years, the Woodward dog park in Fresno, California has been like a second home for a 10-year-old Beagle mix named Rowdy. Her owner, Harold, has been taking her every day so she can enjoy the socialization and exercise.  The pair’s regular trips, however, came to an end when Harold’s cancer prevented him from taking care of his dog.

He was diagnosed with esophagus cancer, and it has since spread to his liver and lungs. The illness keeps him out of the dog park, but he’s desperately wishing it won’t put an end to Rowdy’s happiness. He asked a friend whom he met at the park, Mona Ahmed, to do him an important favor. He wants her to find Rowdy a new home, but not just any home.

Ahmed says Rowdy should go to a loving family with a yard and fence where she has room to play. Ahmed has temporary custody of Rowdy, and she’s doing everything she can to make her dying friend’s wish come true and keep Rowdy out of the shelter. Her post on social media has been shared thousands of times. She wrote,

“My name is Rowdy, I’m a 10 year old female and I’m fixed. Would you please help me and my dad who’s counting his days on Earth because of cancer?”

Harold is currently in the hospital, and Ahmed wants to give him the reassurrance that Rowdy will be well taken care of. She says Rowdy is good with people and other dogs. The little dog is in her senior years, but she’s still active and loves to play. Ahmed has continued taking her to the dog park five days a week, and she’s looking for a family that will keep up with Rowdy’s routine. She says the dog has already gone through traumatic change in her life, and she needs a home where she can once again be a part of the family.

Rowdy is located in Fresno, California. If you’re interested in helping Harold’s last wish come true and giving Rowdy a safe place to call home, Ahmed can be reached on Facebook.
