It’s always incredible when a dog lives to be 13, 14 years old, but a 15 year-old dog? Such a sweet, sweet gift any true dog lover appreciates the significance of.
You’re about to meet 15 year-old Ike. This sweet boy might be getting old, but luckily his hurting body isn’t keeping him down. Since being diagnosed with bone cancer 12 years ago and being given only 6 months ot live, his owner Risa Feldman, who refers to him as “baby boy,” says she just wants him to have a happy life. The pair enjoys long walks along Manhattan Beach, California, where Feldman often sits outside sipping coffee while Ike snacks on a side of bacon. She says his favorite thing to do is people watch – so cute!
Ike’s cancer affects his back legs, making it painful for him to get around. To walk Ike, Feldman had been lifting his back legs off the ground in a makeshift harness, but it was not an easy arrangement for the pup. Feldman decided to pop into the Home Depot one day in hopes of modifying a cart for Ike to make getting around a bit easier. The employee she approached about the project, Ernesto Moran, told her he’d think about it and give her a call.
He and his coworker, Justin Wadman, soon came up with an innovative solution: a custom wagon with a ramp that was custom to Ike’s size. The most amazing part? They decided to make it for free.
