7 Dog Breeds That Are Great For Apartment Life

When it comes to choosing the right dog breed, your living situation is a very important consideration. All dogs are individuals, but making sure you know the characteristics of certain breeds will help you make the right choice. If you live in an apartment, you’re going to need a breed that can adjust well to living in tight quarters. However, your options may not be as limited as you might think. Keep in mind there are many dog breeds suitable for apartment living, but these are some of our favorites.

#1 – Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a loyal, affectionate dog that requires very little physical exercise. They are docile dogs that are adapt very well to apartment living, as they don’t need a lot of space. What Cavaliers want most is to spend quality time with their owners.

#2 – Pug

Pugs are goofy, affectionate dogs that make excellent apartment companions. What they lack in size they make up for in personality, and they require little exercise or room. These dogs are becoming more and more popular due to their adorable looks and charming disposition.

#3 – Shih Tzu

 Shih Tzus are small, social dogs that enjoy spending time with their families. They are general good with strangers, children and other animals and easily fit into apartment living. They have big hearts for their small size.

#4 – Bulldog

Despite their bulkiness, Bulldogs make great apartment dwellers. They require little physical activity and prefer to spend their time sleeping near their owners than chasing any balls. They are full of rambunctious personality and make great companions.

#5 – Greyhound

Adding Greyhounds to this list might seem like a mistake, but they are actually very well suited for apartment living. These dogs were bred to run quickly for short distances, so they do need ample exercise. However, they are quite the couch potatoes and when not active enjoy lying around the house. They don’t need large yards and adapt well to small living spaces.

#6 – Havanese

Havanese are small and sturdy dogs with a loving disposition. They are excellent companion dogs admired for their spirited personalities. Although they don’t do well when left alone for extended periods, they make great apartment dogs.

#7 – French Bulldog

The French Bulldog is similar to its English cousin, but smaller in size. That doesn’t mean the breed lacks any of the goofy personality. These dogs are very fun-loving and social and make excellent apartment dwellers.
