The North Shore Animal League is the world’s largest NO-KILL animal rescue and adoption organization who has saved over a million animals who were at risk of being euthanized.
One of the dogs they rescued is a sweet and shy dog named Mama–a Lab mix who’s around 2 years of age.
Mama got her name because when she was pulled out from the shelter, she had a young puppy with her for company. She was scared but appeared okay, just like any normal dog.
But when Mama was examined at the vet, they were shocked to see what her x-ray revealed. Her X-ray showed dozens, if not hundreds, of birdshot pellets all over her body; even on her head. The pellets were buried under her flesh, meaning Mama has been hiding her pain.
Mama had been shot with a pellet gun numerous times. No wonder why she was so scared! Thankfully, she’s now at the hands of very kind and loving people.
Animal League America Medical Support Liaison Chris Miller said,
“She’s been with us now for about three months. To say she’s come a long way since she came in that day wouldn’t be doing her justice. She was terrified, and rightfully so when you learn about her story. She would sit way back in her cage and stare in fear. Now, her personality is shining through and she’s the sweetest, most loving and welcoming dog you could meet. She still has a strong fear of the outdoors, but other than that she’s the perfect dog.”
