12 Signs You’re A Crazy Pup Parent

| December 30, 2015

Like any proud parent, we dog owners will do anything to help our pooch progenies live life to to the fullest! To outsiders, some of our habits may appear a little–er–crazy.  For instance, tucking them into (our) beds, singing them little songs, and even engaging them in conversation may look a little weird to an unknowing observer. But we just can’t help it–our dogs are part of the family! Here are 12 things we pup parents do every day that may appear out-of-the-ordinary to someone who’s never had a pooch.

1. We handle their poop. Constantly. All the time. Without batting an eye. (Cat owners can relate to this one…)

2. We talk to them as if they’re itty bitty baby wabies. Yes, we baby-talk our little fuzzy wuzzy buddies. They’re just sho fluffy!

My friend's puppy got a bath and was quite content after

3. And we try to rationalize with them. “Charlie, what did I tell you? You can’t have another treat until after dinner! Do you really want to spoil your appetite?”

4. Dog-and-human roughhousing may make us appear as if we’ve lost our doggone minds! Crawling on the floor on all fours and rolling around with your pup in a playful frenzy? Tooooootally normal!

5. And getting a face full of soggy, slobbery dog kisses…well, it can be an acquired taste. But we know it’s the sincerest form of flattery.

6. People who don’t have a dog may not understand the magic of sharing your bed with your pooch“So, they walk outside, then they crawl into your bed?” Yep. Ain’t nobody died from having a little dirt in their sheets.

7. And you maaaaay have sung a little diddy to him once or twice… If you say you’ve never made up a song especially for your dog, you are TOTALLY LYING!

8. And the silly nicknames are out of control. When “Luna” becomes “Luney Booney-Bear” and “Max” becomes “Sir Maximus Attacksicus” (with kisses, of course), you know you’re in love.

huh?

9. When we constantly fret about being away from our pups, non-dog owners may not always get it. Your response when people tell you she’s fine: YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND! SHE NEEDS ME!” Because you and your dog, in fact, have a very deep spiritual connection.

10. We can’t run errands without bringing home a little something for our furry friend. You don’t want them to think you forgot about them, do you?

11. And if we order any dog-safe people food at a restaurant, a doggie-bag is definitely coming home with us. “I’d like a side of unseasoned steamed carrots…you know, for my dog.”

12. So even if we dog-owners seem a little–er–weird… (Have you ever seen love as true as this?)

It’s just because we love their snuggly butts so darn much!
