A pup that faced unimaginable cruelty has finally found the forever family of his dreams. After being abandoned in front of Richland Animal Care and Control (RACC) in frigid temperatures, the emaciated pup was left to fight for his life.
Adorable Pit Bull and Boxer mix Olympus was on the brink of death when he was left outside the Virginia animal shelter. Surveillance footage captures the heartbreaking moment the pup was dumped, and it’s almost too devastating to watch.
The footage shows a man holding Olympus as he walks to the shelter, only to set him down at the doors and immediately walk away. Olympus tries to follow the man who dumped him, only to collapse moments later from weakness.
Thankfully for Olympus, a security guard soon found the critical pup and got in contact with the shelter director, Christie Chipps-Peters. Christie rushed the terrifyingly skinny dog to the nearest animal clinic, hoping there would be a chance to save his life. She describes Olympus as moments from death, so the odds were certainly stacked against him.
“He was completely emaciated. He was freezing cold. His little paws started to turn under, which is what we see when death comes often.” – Christie Chipps-Peters
From the moment Olympus arrived at the veterinary hospital, it was clear just how serious his condition was. You could see every bone in his tiny body, his temperature was too cold to register, and his blood pressure was too low to even place an IV catheter. The veterinary team gave the shelter director a realistic prognosis, but promised they would do everything in their power to save him.
Olympus was a fighter and began to gain strength with each day that passed. His once fragile body began to heal with the support of his veterinary team, as well as the love of his supporters around the world. Many people had learned about his situation at this point, sending an abundance of hope and love his way.
After almost two weeks in the hospital, Olympus was finally cleared for release to the RACC team. He had a few setbacks along the way, but he was ready to find his forever home just one month after being found.
The RACC team had hundreds of adoption applicants for Olympus, but they finally settled on the perfect family. Almost a month to the day after Olympus was cruelly abandoned in the freezing cold, he went home with the loving family he always deserved.
“We are thrilled to announce that Olympus has found his forever home! After weeks of treatment (touch and go results; thank you, Dr. Honias for leaving no stone unturned), thousands of dollars in vet care, foster care rehabilitation, lots of healing prayers and well wishes from across the country, our sweet boy Olympus is finally adopted! We honestly can’t believe he lived…it was tough there for a bit!”
We are so happy for Olympus and hope that the love of his new family can wash away the pain he endured at the hands of the terrible humans he knew before. The RACC team has told followers that police and animal control are actively investigating the situation and hope to bring justice to Olympus soon!
