Mickey was already 10 years old when he was dumped by his former people at a high-kill shelter in California. A senior dog with sad eyes, Mickey was confused as to why he had been left there at all. He only wanted to be loved, and had plenty of love to give in return.

Mickey was at risk so long as he was in that shelter, but thanks to organizations that rescue dogs from high-kill facilities, many adoptable, lovable pets get second chances.

Shelter Transport and Animal Rescue Team, better known as S.T.A.R.T, rescues pets from high-kill shelters in Southern and Central California. They took Mickey out of this facility and whisked him off to a new beginning. He was taken to Aunty Sandy’s boarding facility for a short stay, and then transported North to Oregon Dog Rescue.

Although once again in a shelter, Mickey was in a much safer place than he had been before. Oregon Dog Rescue is a dedicated no-kill facility, where every adoptable pet – even a 10 year old surrendered German Shepherd like Mickey – has a chance to find a home.

Once dumped in California, Mickey’s forever family finally found him in Oregon. Oregon Dog Rescue managed to make Mickey’s wish come true in finding him a forever home. Mickey’s family feels lucky to have finally found him and enjoy having him in their home. They say:

“We love this ol’ boy! He’s just the most mellow, peaceful, gentle dog I’ve ever met. He is potty trained, sits on command, and drops a toy when he brings it to you to play. I’m sure he has many other talents that I haven’t discovered yet!”
