These Photos Capture Faithful Dogs From Puppyhood To Their Senior Years

| September 2, 2015

Most of us pet parents take a lot of pictures of our own dogs, so just imagine how many a professional photographer takes?! Amanda Jones was reviewing images of her Dachshund Lily that she had taken over the 15 years of her life, and realized it was very moving. So, she started calling up old clients whose puppies she had photographed, and asked them if she could take pictures of them, now in their golden years.

“I worked on the project [by] finding the previous owners and going back for a second shoot for two years,” Jones told iHeartDogs.

The images are part of Jones’s book, Dog Years: Faithful Friends, Then & Now, which you can purchase at Barnes & Noble or from the publisher, Chronicle Books.

In the introduction, Jones explains that working with dogs has changed her in a way she never expected.

“I now feel that I am part dog-portrait photographer, part dog psychiatrist, and part dog trainer, all of it coming from years working with dogs and their owners. My shoots are about so much more than the photographs; they are about the dogs and the people who love them. They are about honesty and trust. There is a deep understanding that these are more than just animals. They are partners by our sides as we travel though life.”
