Like so many dogs before her, Faith found herself abandoned at her local Oklahoma shelter for a heartbreaking reason – her family simply did not want her anymore. Faith sank into a deep depression, trembling with fear and refusing to eat well. When someone walked past her kennel she would cower and peer up at them with sadness and confusion in her eyes. She was in danger of slipping through the cracks when a kind volunteer took notice.
A young girl named Nikki made Faith her personal project. She cradled her in her arms, whispered words of reassurance and sat on the floor of her kennel for hours. Nikki’s focus on Faith brought her situation to the attention of the Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County (HSLCC).
They realized that all Faith needed to thrive was a little extra personal contact and compassion. HSLCC pulled Faith from the shelter and immediately placed her with a foster family. Away from the hustle and bustle of the shelter, Faith began to blossom into a loving, playful pet.
She also regained some much-needed weight that she had lost during her ordeal. HSLCC is a recipient of food donations through GreaterGood.org‘s Rescue Bank program. They provide pet food to shelters so that financial donations can go towards other necessities like training and veterinary care.
A spokesperson for HSLCC said in a statement to iHeartDogs:
“Rescue Bank has enabled us to provide the animals that come into our rescue organization with nutrition that they, for the most part, have never had. It allows us to feed them without having to squander other resources to pay for the food. It gives us a peace of mind knowing that it’s one less thing we have to worry about.”
While with her foster family, all of Faith’s high-quality dog food was provided free of charge!
Soon, Faith was adopted into the perfect forever home. When her new human sister first met her, it was love at first sight. Marlena, an adult with Down’s Syndrome, proclaimed to her parents that the pooch would be sleeping in her bed!
Since Faith’s adoption, Marlena has been teaching her to fetch and the pair have become inseparable companions. According to her friends at HSLCC, Faith is “a dream come true for her new family, and for Faith, there is no other place she’d rather be!”
