You can ask any dog enthusiast, “what makes a dog special?”and they could carry on endlessly. They may go on and on about a canine’s capability for unconditional love, unwavering loyalty or obsession with a tennis ball. How many will take the time to describe the smell of a dogs paws, or rattle off Guinness World Record Statistics? After reading this, they may change their answers.

Humans show genuine affection by hugging the ones they love. It is a universal sign for most of the animal kingdom to give some semblance of a hug to show love and affection. For a dog, however, they really don’t appreciate the art of hugging. While most tolerate it, to a dog, hugging is more of a dominance thing.

3. Spiked Collars, Fifty Shades of Awkward
Spiked collars have been fashionably worn by tough dogs, burly dogs, strong dogs and punk rockers. They’ve been seen in magazines and made the rounds in literary tomes. Spiked collars have been around since Ancient Greece. They were originally designed to protect dog’s throats from wolf attacks.
4. Mmmmm! Smell Them Paws!
Many owners have complained about the corn-chippy smell emanating from their dogs paws. The smell actually comes from a collection of bacteria. A dog’s paws are always on the ground, they tend to pick up thousands of micro-organisms on and in between their pads. Since dogs carry all their sweat glands in the pads of their feet, the mixture of sweat and bacteria create the lovely odor of Fritos.
5. Canine Guinness Record Holders
Currently, the longest tongue on record is held by a St. Bernard named Mochi. Her tongue is measured at 7.3 inches long. The longest tongue ever was found in the mouth of a boxer named Brandy. Her tongue was measured at seventeen inches.
Auggie, an 8 year old Golden Retriever, holds the record for most tennis balls in her mouth at one time. How many could she fit? Five.
The tallest dog according to Guinness was forty-four inches tall. This record-holding Great Dane, Zeus, passed away at the age of five in 2014.
The smallest dog is 3.8 inches tall. Milly is a long haired Chihuahua.
Oldest dog ever goes to an Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey. The dog was born in 1910 and herded cattle and sheep up until he was put down in 1939. Bluey was 29 years and five months when he passed.
