A senior terrier mix named Tessa was found cold and wet, abandoned in a field in the early hours of Sunday morning. She was left behind a bush with a bag of food, a bowl of water, and an abrasive, uncaring note. The South Yorkshire Pet Ambulance animal rescue was called, and photos of the poor pup and the offensive note were posted to Facebook.

The note explains that Tessa was left in the care of a neighbor when her owner moved overseas. The neighbor assured the owner that the dog would be cared for, but knew when they accepted Tessa that they were not interested in caring for her. Poor Tessa was dumped the moment her owner was gone, abandoned although she was promised a safe home.

The anonymous person who abandoned Tessa left her with a blanket, some food, and instructions to care for her. However, a scribbled note with dietary preferences is not a suitable substitute for the love and care of an actual person.

Tessa’s photos and the note left with her has since gone viral, with many people expressing outrage at her abandonment, and words of support for Tessa. The people at South Yorkshire Pet Ambulance have words for both the owner and the irresponsible neighbor, saying “Shame on the woman who went to live in Canada … And Shame on the bloke who tied up and dumped an elderly dog in a field with the expectation of someone finding her.” They also stated that they have doubt in the existence of an owner who moved to Canada.

She is currently being cared for at the Netherlands Kennels in Rotherham, England, where she will be able to find the forever home she deserves.
