When 11-year-old dog-lover Kylie Blake wanted to do something to commemorate her late veteran grandfather, she came up with the perfect idea: to send care K-9 care packages to military dogs, in his honor.
The Virginia Beach native–who has two pups of her own–has compiled and shipped over 60 care packages that have been delivered overseas to countries that include Germany, Guam, Afghanistan and Iraq.
When these hard-working pups receive their presents, they’re treated to snacks, toys, and chews, as well as essentials like blankets, paw salve, shampoo, flea and tick preventative, nail clippers, and tons more.
Not only do these boxes provide a little vacation for these heroic dogs–they make the handlers happy, as well! (What better way to forget your troubles than a game of fetch or tug with your pup?!)
But sharing the love with these well-deserving dogs and their soldiers certainly costs a pretty penny.
In reference to the care packages that have been sent, “shipping alone for those was over $900,” reads Kylie’s GoFundMe page. Hot dog!
Luckily, lots of kindhearted folks are happy to help with Kylie’s cause, and as long as she keeps receiving donations, this selfless 5th grader will continue compiling and sending these thoughtful care packages.
Says Kylie of being able to send more boxes, “this would not only make me happy but it would make the dogs happy too.”
Way to go, Kylie! To find out more or to donate, visit Kylie’s GoFundMe page.
